Before attempting to remove stains from wood flooring, consider the surface treatment of the floor. If stains are on the surface, your floor may have a hard coating, such as polyurethane. If the paint stains have penetrated into the wood, the floor may have been coated with soft oil, which is common in old houses where the flooring has not been repaired and resealed. For hard floor, please use a clean soft cloth to wipe the surface stains. Never use sandpaper, steel wool or irritant chemicals because they can damage the surface for a long time.
The following remedial measures apply to hardwood flooring with soft oil. If necessary, at the end of each treatment, stain the wood, then wax and polish it to match the rest of the floor.
Remove black spots and pet stains:Wipe black spots with steel wool and floor wax. If the area is still dark, use bleach or vinegar and immerse it in the wood for about an hour. Rinse with a wet cloth.
Remove heel marks:Wipe the floor wax with fine steel wool.
Remove oil stains:Wipe off oil stains with a soft cloth and detergent. Rinse with water. If an application does not work, repeat the process. Please take the children and pets out of the room before completing the operation. Let the spots dry and then grind the raised particles with fine sandpaper.
